NKF Events 2016

RAJA MUDA OF PERLIS PRESENTED A DONATION OF RM200,000 TO NKF

On 16 February 2016, Pusat Rawatan Dialisis Tuanku Syed Putra – NKF (Kangar) had a visit in the afternoon from a very special guest – the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail. His Majesty arrived at the dialysis centre which was the last leg of a 12 kilometer cycling trip he had made with an entourage of 100 cyclists from the Perlis Public Works Department and from amongst members of the Perlis Cycling Club.
At the centre, the Raja Muda as the Chairman of the Perlis Tuanku Syed Putra Foundation in a ceremony presented a cheque for RM200,000 to the 1st Vice-Chairman of the Centre, Tengku Puteri Utama Perlis, Datuk Seri Diraja Sharifah Salwa Putra Jamalullail. The money represented the donation of the Perlis Tuanku Syed Putra Foundation and Harmony Foundation.

NKF OPEN DAY IN PETALING JAYA

In conjunction with the World Kidney Day which fell on 10 March this year, NKF followed suit by celebrating the occasion with an open day. Prior to that day, notices were circulated within the neighbourhood of the NKF Secretariat premises and amongst patients of NKF disclosing the activities during the day together with the commencing and ending times for these activities. Besides NKF using its LifeCheck Mobile Health Screening services for the occasion, companies and even the Malaysian Ministry of Health were invited to set up booths for exhibitions and for providing other health care services.

FAMILY WALKATHON – WKD 2016

On 12 March 2016, in conjunction with World Kidney Day 2016, the National Kidney Foundation, together with the Malaysian Society of Nephrology and the Ministry of Health jointly kicked of the World Kidney Day Family Walkathon. Held at Kepong Metropolitan Park in Kuala Lumpur, the event witnessed the congregation of more than 1,500 participants who came together to support the battle against kidney disease. The event was also graced by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr. Hj. Azman Abu Bakar, Director of Medical Development Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Covering a distance of 3.5km which took participants on a scenic route around the vicinity of the Kepong Metropolitan Park lake, the walkathon was flagged off at 8.00am by YBhg Dato’ Dr Hj Azman bin Abu Bakar. Themed “Kidney Disease & Children”, the event championed the prevention of kidney disease, especially amongst children, with a special emphasis on the need to encourage a healthy lifestyle amongst youngsters and early action to keep the onset of kidney disease at bay.

NKF JOINED BOOKDOC TO ASSIST THE PUBLIC SEARCH FOR KIDNEY RELATED INFORMATION & SERVICES

On 4 April 2016, the NKF CEO, Mr. Chua Hong Wee and the founder-cum-CEO of BookDoc, Dato’ Chevy Beh launched the collaboration between the two organisations to ease the search by the public for kidney related information and services involving the Foundation. BookDoc is an online healthcare app in Malaysia, Singapore and Hongkong.

With this arrangement, members of the public can search for the contact information of all NKF dialysis centres at any time by means of the BookDoc mobile app, which is available free-of charge in both App Store and Google Play Store. Furthermore, the BookDoc app enables users to apply to be NKF patients and navigate to the nearest centre via its add-on features and embedded links.

NKF’S 12TH PATIENT FORUM 2016

This 12th Forum with the theme “Improving the Quality of Your Life” was a great success with attendance of approximately 400 participants comprising patients, caregivers and staff of NGO, private and government dialysis centres in Selangor.

Aside from presentations by speakers at the Forum proper, Perkeso, Nestle Heath Science, Vista Eye Specialist, KPJ Healthcare and NKF Public Education Department (PED) displayed their products and services. Y.B. Puan Dr. Daroyah Binti Alwi, the Chairman of the Health, Welfare, Women and Family Development Committee in the Selangor State Executive Council was the Guest-of-Honour at the Forum.

NURSES’ DAY AT PUSAT DIALISIS NKF -YAYASAN DIALISIS PENDIDIKAN AKHLAK PERAK (IPOH)

6 May 2016 was an especially meaningful and exciting day for the nursing staff at Pusat Dialisis NKF – Yayasan Dialisis Pendidikan Akhlak Perak (Ipoh). In conjunction with the Nurses’ Day the nursing staff at the centre led by the Staff Nurse-in-Charge Tam Mun Heng came to work without their usual attire. By coming to work so casually for first time in their working lives with the centre, they caught the patients by surprise and brought about much informality and gaiety, thereby breaking the drudgery in dialysis for the day. To bring about a more relaxed atmosphere, both patients and staff were engaged in a mini feast.

HARI PENYAYANG YAYASAN SULTANAH BAHIYAH

In conjunction with “Hari Penyayang Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah” on 13-14 May 2016, Puan Misbah Bte Dato’ Haji Abdul Hamid, BKM, the General Manager of the “Yayasan” based in Kedah arranged for the NKF LifeCheck Mobile Health screening to be carried for members of the public at Stadium Darul Aman, Alor Setar.

As a large crowd was anticipated to be screened, the Northern NKF LifeCheck Mobile Health Screening Team based in Alor Setar was complimented by the Champion Team from the Secretariat Ofice which proceeded for the Kedah state capital on the night of 12 May 2016.

3RD RENAL NUTRITION SEMINAR AT INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL, KUALA LUMPUR

NKF together with the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (MDA) hosted the 3rd Renal Nutrition Seminar.

The Seminar was held on 2-3 June 2016 and was attended by both local and overseas participants who included nephrologists, dietitians, medical doctors, pharmacists and nurses. Some of the participants were from U.S.A., Singapore, India and Indonesia.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON SETTING UP OF A  DIALYSIS CENTRE IN TAMAN MUTIARA, CHERAS, SOLELY FOR DIALYSIS PATIENTS WITH HEPATITIS

On 28 July 2016, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Calvary Church in setting up an all Hepatitis Dialysis Centre at Taman Mutiara, Cheras.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Lee Wan Tin, a member of Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Dialysis Committee in NKF, Senior Pastor Steven Kum and Pastor Yong Chee Weng representing Calvary Church and Senior Pastor Lawrence Yap as the representative of Charis Church as witness to the signing of the MoU.

FAMILY DAY OF  PUSAT DIALISIS NKF – YAYASAN SULTANAH BAHIYAH (KULIM))

On 9 October 2016, Pusat Dialisis NKF – Yayasan Sultanah Bahiyah celebrated its Family Day by having fun and games which were held within the premises of the centre.

About 160 persons participated in the occasion which began at 8 o’clock in the morning with participation from patients of the centre and their family members as well as members of the centre staff.

13TH NKF ANNUAL DIALYSIS MEETING (ADM)

For 2016, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Malaysia is organizing and hosting the 13th NKF Annual Dialysis Meeting (ADM) for 1½ days on 12-13 November 2016 at VE Hotel in Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur with the theme “Moving Towards Patient-Centred Care.
Topics for the Meeting are focused on the quality and safety of dialysis care in Malaysia in compliance with the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998.
