PUSAT DIALISIS NKF – KELAB APEX (KLANG) RECEIVED 2 NEW DIALYSIS MACHINES

Mr. Ong Kan Bin had a soft spot for the kidney failure patients dialysing in Pusat Dialisis NKF-Kelab Apex (Klang). He had been an avid donor to the centre since 2013.
 
On 31 January 2019, Mr. Ong Kan Bin donated 2 more dialysis machines to the centre. The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia is grateful to Mr. Ong Kan Bin for his unwavering support.

 

 

18 CENTRES BENEFITTED FROM THE GENEROSITY OF 99 SPEED MART SDN BHD

On 15 February 2019, Mr. Chua Hong Wee the CEO of the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia received 2 units of body composition analysers from Ms. Ng Lee Thieng, Executive Director, Mr. Simon Yong, MIS Director and Mr. Yong Eng Kwang, Branches Operation-General Manager of 99 Speed Mart Sdn Bhd.

 

 

NKF OPEN DAY 2019

On 14 March 2019, the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Malaysia organised the NKF Open Day in conjunction with World Kidney Day 2019 which promoted “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere”.
 
The programme commenced with one hour of Bollywood Fitness Dance instructed by Mr. Kirenjit Singh, the Bhangra Dance Master to unleash the adrenalin rush of the participants. Free health screening was provided for members of the public to keep track of their blood pressure, blood glucose and blood cholesterol level with counselling given by NKF’s health professionals.
 
At the same time, an exhibition on kidney disease and awareness on organ donation was held, while talks were given by medical experts in relation to kidneys and medication.

 

 

LAUNCH OF SECOND EDITION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINE TO ADDRESS THE RISE OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE

On 14 March 2019 at the Le Meridien Hotel in Putrajaya, the Ministry of Health (MOH), Malaysian Society of Nephrology (MSN) and National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Malaysia collaborated to launch the second edition of clinical practice guideline (CPG) on management of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
 
Established by the members of the development group from MOH, Minister of Higher Education (MOHE) and private healthcare, the CPG serves to assist practitioner decisions about appropriate health care for chronic kidney disease such as identification of risk in developing CKD, screening and early detection of CKD, treatment of early CKD to prevent progression, management of CKD and more.
 
The event also included a host of talks and case discussions on chronic kidney disease from a clinical perspective. “The launching of the CPG on Management of Chronic Kidney Disease (Second Edition) is an important milestone in the development of kidney care in Malaysia. The primary objective of the CPG is to educate health care providers hence ensuring that optimal kidney care is provided to everyone, everywhere,” said YB Dr Lee Boon Chye, the Deputy Minister of Health, Malaysia.

 

 

1ST NKF PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT (PED) UNIT IN THE SOUTHERN REGION LAUNCHED

On 17 March 2019, Y.B. Dr. Sahruddin Bin Jamal, currently the Menteri Besar of Johor, (the then Chairman of the Johor Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee) launched the first NKF PED Southern Regional Unit in Batu Pahat.
 
Present were Dr. Lee Wan Tin, the member of the NKF Board of Directors-cum-Chairman of the NKF Technical and Dialysis Committee and Mr. Chua Hong Wee, the NKF Chief Executive Officer.
The launch was accompanied by activities promoting healthcare and wellness, a Zumba session together with a Johor cultural performance and a cooking demonstration.
 
The Unit is to provide the public with easily accessible information and services such as mobile health screening, health talks, health exhibitions and counselling which are conducted by NKF health care professionals.

 

 

EMBRACING THE JOY OF GIVING IN THE MONTH OF RAMADAN

On 13 June 2019, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) held its “Hari Raya” Open House. Amongst its invited guests were nearly 40 patients from NKF and their family members.
 
In the midst of the function, Mr. Alan Pryor, the KLCC General Manager shared, “As part of ‘Embracing the Joy of Giving in the Month of Ramadan’ we raised RM12,000 in total and donated the full amount equally across three organisations.”
 
One of the three organisations to receive RM4,000 was NKF. The Foundation is deeply touched by the cheers the Centre brought to the Foundation’s patients and members of their families, in addition to the financial gift to help in lessening the hardships encountered by the patients.

 

NKF GLOW RUN – MALAYSIA AGRO EXPOSITION PARK SERDANG (MAEPS)

On the night of 20 July 2019, the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) was transformed into a hive of activities associated with commemorating NKF’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations.
 
More than 3,000 people were at the park to enjoy the night of activities. Commencing the activities was the convoy of 20 Volkswagens, 55 super cars and 48 Harley Davidson that had made the ground their final destination after journeying 50 kilometres with pit stops at 1 Utama, Sunway Pyramid and IOI City Mall to distribute flyers, raise awareness of kidney disease and collect banners with signatures of the public supporting NKF’s kidney awareness campaign.
 
At MAEPS, the banners were presented to Mr. Chua Hong Wee, the Chief Executive Officer of NKF. At the same ceremony, Mr Chua Hong Wee received 3 dialysis machines from the H.T.C Motorcycle Club, Global Heal Group and Next Drive Family and Friends.
 
At the end of the ceremony over 3,000 participants who had signed up for the 5 kilometre Glow Run 2019 started off on a circuit lit by neon coloured lights and lanterns, lined in some places by food trucks and accompanied by music.

 

 

LAUNCH OF THE RED BEAN ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME

On 25 July 2019, Datuk Seri Dr. Haji Dzulkely Bin Ahmad, the Minister of Health, Malaysia launched the Red Bean Assistance Programme at NKF.
 
Under the Programme, NKF and Roche Malaysia help to lighten the financial burden of poor Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients suffering from anemia, a condition in the loss of haemoglobin or red blood cells in the blood.
 
The Programme will commence in the Klang Valley from 1 September 2019 and subsequently nationwide starting 1 January 2020.

 

 

NKF’S 15TH PATIENT FORUM

On 4 August 2019, NKF held its 15th Annual Patient Forum entitled “Improving the Quality of Your Life” in Muar, Johor.
 
425 people were at the Forum. In officiating the Forum, Dr. Lee Wan Tin, the Member of NKF’s Board of Directors mentioned, “NKF has established the Patient Forum to provide patients and their caregivers with information and advice that they need in one platform. Through this Forum, we hope to safeguard the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of the patients.”

 

 

NKF’S GOLDEN JOURNEY HONOURS PATIENTS, SUPPORT SERVICE

Kuala Lumpur, 18 October 2019 – In conjunction with its 50th anniversary this year, the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) paid homage to patients who were aided by the organisation, together with nurses and staff who have served at NKF’s dialysis centres located throughout the country.
 
In a simple yet meaningful celebration at the Royal Lake Club, Kuala Lumpur, NKF, Malaysia’s leading non-profit dialysis treatment provider, honoured its pioneers and long-serving staff.
 
Aptly themed “A Golden Journey”, the anniversary celebration was attended by Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Abu Bakar Suleiman, President of the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia; Y. Bhg Dato’ Dr. Zaki Morad Mohd Zaher, Chairman of the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia, Members of the Board of Governors and Board of Directors, former and existing NKF staff, patients as well as donors.
